A Galway nursing home was honoured for its commitment to quality and excellence at this year's National Q Mark Awards. The Holy Family Nursing Home in Killimor took the award for 'Best Nursing Home in the Country' after seeing off very strong competitors in the previous rounds, and then beating the best of the best to be proclaimed the victorious winners at the Awards Night, held in Dublin's Burlington Hotel.

The Holy Family Nursing Home is a purpose built 35-bed private Nursing Home established in 2000 by Paddy and Anne Fahey. It is committed to providing high quality care and treatment to residents and strives to offer as much support as possible to the family and friends of our residents.

Its aim is to ensure the environment that the residents live in is comfortable, warm relaxed and above all homely. They currently employ 34 people. The Manager of the home, Patrick Fahey, said that he was very proud of his team's commitment to providing the very best quality and excellence to their residents.

Their selection was all the more impressive given the rapid growth in the nursing home and residential care centre across the country. As Ireland's population gets older, it is estimated that by 2041, Ireland will have 1.4 million people over the age of 65. By implication, the figures for long-stay nursing home placements for 2021, only nine years from now, are that we will need 35,000 beds. That's a staggering 12,000 more beds than we currently have in place.

This is all great news for the growing industry of nursing homes and care facilitators, but is guaranteed to create enormous competition in the industry as a whole, as a plethora of new foreign care providers are currently looking to expand into the Irish market.

The National Q Mark Awards are widely considered to be the ultimate achievement for any Irish business, currently recognised by 87% of the population as guaranteeing the highest standards of quality and excellence available in Ireland.
